Believing For Every Little Thing Pertaining To Life

3 “as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature,”    2 Peter 1:3-4    NKJV

What a powerful reminder in life.  Often we feel so weak and impotent against the snares and frustrations of this life.  No matter what things look like or how we may feel regarding those things, we have an amazing promise from Jesus in which to operate.  We have “divine power”, His power, at work in us and through us in every area of our lives.  There is nothing regarding this life that we do not have divine power over!

As followers of Christ we truly settle for so much less than He has provided, which brings up the question of how we go from merely acknowledging the truth of that concept to actually experiencing it.  According to verse 3 this comes from the “knowledge of Him”.  The more we are with Him, the more we believe and experience those truths.  It is not just for the superior followers of Christ, or those that are His favorites, it is for each one of us that believes it and desires it.  When you think of all the things you can believe for in this life that pertain to your daily life and that pursuit of godliness there are things others might say are too small or silly to believe for.  But even those things are truly yours as He has called you his “glory and virtue”.

Many people think it foolish to believe for the small things in life.  To ask or believe for such things is too much to ask of God.  That is why most people receive sparingly. How much is too much with God?  We are the only limiting factor, so let’s believe for divine power in all things that pertain to this life.

Verse 4 begins by saying that we have been given exceedingly great and precious promises.  Most people have a hard time believing for the mundane and small things and never seek the spiritual heights of exceedingly great and precious promises. Most of those promises lie untouched and undisturbed throughout the life of the individual believer.

Let’s reach for them.  Let’s lay hold of His Promises as they have already been given to us and come through the knowing of Him.  Let’s be those “partakers of the divine nature”, and then demonstrate to others how this can be achieved and manifested in this life.  These are the promises of Jesus for us.  They are great and “precious” promises.

The word “precious”, as it is used in this specific verse, means that which was costly.  Jesus paid such a costly price for us and for the exceedingly great and precious promises that are represented by His divine power working for us, in us and through us in ALL matters pertaining to this life.
