The Joy in His Good Tidings

Nov 17, 2016Written Devotionals

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be  called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” And they shall rebuild the old ruins, They shall raise up the former desolations, And they shall repair the ruined cities, The desolations of many generations.   Isaiah 61:1-4  NKJV

Jesus brings you good tidings daily.  He came to heal the brokenhearted and to proclaim liberty to the captive.  As many of you read this, you may not see the liberty, comfort and joy at this moment.  But know that the good things He has established for you are already in place.  So many times in life I have been tempted to give up on a promise because there was no worldly evidence to support the natural minds confidence in it.  Yet He is always faithful and we will see that if we do not give up hope.

When I was managing a Christian radio station a circumstance arose where I needed a legal procedure to take place involving another radio station.  Without it our station’s signal would be severely hindered.  It was promised and ignored.  For more than a year there was no evidence that it would take place.  As far as I could tell it was a dead issue, yet unbeknownst to me the Lord was resolving the issue.  It worked to my benefit even though I could not see it happening.

That which you mourn right now and see as loss will be turned around into something more beautiful than you could have hoped for, if you remain in faith.  The victory and deliverance are your reality right now in the spiritual realm, you just have not yet seen the evidence of it.

The oil of joy is yours already because the Holy Spirit is that oil and He is in you.  If He is in you then the fruit of the Holy Spirit is in you, and part of that fruit is joy!  The joy is there in you, it is His joy.  You may not feel it because it gets blunted down from daily life in this fallen world, but make no mistake that joy is in you.  Give first place to that joy regardless of how you feel, rather than the fears and doubts that surface during struggles in life.  Those struggles suggest the worst case scenario, but that is only a temporary and false appearance.  It is not the final reality.

The joy is yours, the answer to your needs is yours and the liberty from that which is holding you captive is yours as well.  Replace the heaviness with that garment of praise, chose to praise in spite of appearances that are ultimately false and misleading.  The result is He repairs that which has been ruined.
