The Battle Is His

45 “Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”     Samuel 17:45 NKJV

In the battle between David and Goliath, David was pro-active and rushed towards his enemy and the enemy of the Lord.  All the rest of Israel lined up and talked about the battle, but David advanced in battle.  We are really good about talking about the things of the Lord when confronted with the battles of this life, but we tend to be hesitant about advancing into the battle against that which opposes the Word of God in our lives.

David advanced in the power of his covenant yet you and I have a better covenant because of Jesus.  David had to defeat his giant but you don’t. Jesus has already defeated Satan; all you have to do is enforce his defeat.  Move forward in the name of Jesus. This is advancing in battle and it enforces your victory and Satan’s defeat.  David said that he came at Goliath in the name of the Lord.  You and I advance against our enemy and all the battles he has thrown your way in the name of Jesus!

In verse 47 David concludes by saying that the battle is the Lord’s.  The battle is not yours but His, and He has already won it, so just advance and enforce it.  It may not feel like the victory is there, you may not always see it immediately.  Goliath’s threats to David had to carry with them the appearance of reality.  But David was not moved by what he saw.  Instead, he advanced because of what he knew.  He told Goliath, “You come at me with physical threats, but I come against you in the name of the Lord”.  He was telling Goliath that all he had were mere weapons but David told him that he had the promises of God and that Goliath was already defeated.

The battle is the Lord’s, all you have to do is advance in the authority of the covenant that you have just as David did.  This comes by speaking the Word and the promises of the Word of truth.  As you speak the Word of God you enforce what He has already gained for you.  The battle is not yours but His, we just have to show up at the battle and advance in Him.
