That You Might Know All
“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God. “ 1 Corinthians 2:12 NKJV
Paul has already noted in this chapter that there is a difference between the person who has the Holy Spirit within them and the person who does not. The person that does not have the Holy Spirit will not be able to understand the deeper things of the spiritual world and they will not understand the things of God. To the natural mind, the things of God are foolish because they cannot see with spiritual clarity. They are blinded to the greater truths of Jesus.
However, and here is the exciting news for you and me as believers in Jesus Christ, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling within us and that gives each one of us a direct connection to the Lord. Verse 16 tells us that we have the mind of Christ! Stop and think about that for a moment. You have the mind of Christ because you are connected to Him through the Holy Spirit. There is nothing that Jesus is hiding from you… In fact, He wants you to know all there is to know about His truth, His love and about Him!
We have the mind of Christ and can know all things. You may have been a believer for years and still feel as though you don’t have very much of the kingdom of God yet. That may be, but it does not have to remain that way. You have the mind of Jesus and He wants you to know all things through Him. The key to our understanding is that we have the mind of Christ, that we “may” know all things. We have access to know all things but it is something that we have to go after and pursue to possess. If you look at the verse above you will note that the word “might” is present. Understand that, as one having a relationship with Jesus, you have already received His Spirit that you “might” know all things.
What spiritual truths do you not understand? What things in the spiritual realm and from the Word do you not understand? What are you having a hard time grasping or possessing from His promises? You can understand it because it has already been given to you freely. You don’t have to earn His insights, truths, and understanding, it is already there for you. It is available to you that you “might” possess it. You have to want it and go after it with a thankful heart knowing that it is yours whether you have fully realized it yet or not!
The word “might” means that it is not up to Him how much we understand and receive from His understanding and insights, it is up to us! You can understand the Bible without having to go to Seminary, or be trained by men. You have the greatest teacher in the universe in the Holy Spirit. You can have spiritual understanding and insight into all manner of things in this life; it has been given to you freely. Simply ask the Holy Spirit for His wisdom each day and learn to receive it.
