Relief From Weariness
“Six days you shall do your work, and on the seventh day you shall rest, that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the stranger may be refreshed.” Exodus 23:12 NKJV
There seems to be an epidemic of “weariness” in our society. The pace of life demands drain us and we fail to realize the cumulative effect of weariness that comes upon us. In the last ten years, our culture has become fascinated Zombies, which is a type self-evaluation because so many of us survive on empty.
Part of the benefit of the Sabbath was rest. We all benefit from periods of rest; however, there is another principle of the Sabbath, a greater principle, which most believers overlook. Part of the Sabbath was to teach man to put his trust and confidence in the Lord. If man did not work on the seventh day he would not have enough. Each day demanded work to survive. Not working deprived him of food and the basic needs of life for that day. So resting on the seventh day meant that man had to rely on the Lord to provide.
In Hebrews chapter 4 the first 11 verses speak to us regarding a new covenant understanding of the Sabbath, and of rest on the seventh day. We learn that there remains a promise of entering into His rest. It is something more than the Sabbath day of the Old Covenant. It is something greater and it combines the two principles of Sabbath that we already discussed.
We see the Sabbath tied to the seventh day of creation. God rested on the seventh day but not because of weariness. He rested because of completion, there was nothing left to do and everything was good. Today we have the new covenant through Jesus which promises us a better Sabbath rest. Everything we need is already complete in Jesus. We simply must enter into that place of rest by not relying on self and our own abilities but trust Him to meet our needs.
They only had one day of Sabbath, but we can live in Sabbath rest because Jesus has completed His work. If we truly believe that then we can enter into that rest and assurance no matter what we see or how things appear in the natural. Jesus has already provided all you need and your deliverance. Enter into His rest and break free of weariness.
