Positioned For Battle
“You will not have to fight this battle, Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give you…” 2 Chronicles 20:17 NIV
Every day we are faced with battles and trials. The older we get the harder it is to face them. We get battle weary and to some degree filled with more and more doubt. On occasion, we just avoid battles altogether. However, as a child of God, we should have a different attitude toward the battles. Here is an example from the Old Testament.
The nation of Judah was unable to defend themselves against a coming attack. Their enemy was vastly superior to them. However, God says to them, as he says to us today concerning those battles you face that seem hopeless, “You will not have to fight the battle”. All they had to do was position themselves for battle. As long as they went out to the battlefield and positioned themselves for battle the Lord would take care of the rest for them.
We are not required to fight either, only to position ourselves. What does that mean? Simply this; you are to focus on the Lord, not on the problem (the battle) that is before you. We get fearful of the coming battle and all our thoughts and energy is devoted to nothing more than worry. God told the Israelites in the previous verses that they had nothing to fear, “For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” It becomes a choice for you. You can either choose to take on the battle and fight it in your own strength, or you can choose to let the Lord fight the battle for you.
I don’t know about your results from fighting your own battles, but my personal success average is not all that inspiring. It is always far more beneficial for me to let Jesus fight the battles for me. The men of Judah won a stunning victory when they positioned themselves for battle and let Him deliver their enemies to them. You can do the same thing. Put your focus on the Lord, stand on the Word for His promises and thank Him in advance.
This is the position to take for the battle that leads to victory! Position yourself in this way and your battles will be fought and won on your behalf by the Father.
