No Carryovers From Yesterday
22 “It is because of the Lord’s mercy and loving-kindness that we are not consumed, because His [tender] compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning; great and abundant is Your stability and faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23 Amplified Bible
I have been reading the book of Lamentations (I know, not a book that sounds as though it would offer up hope and encouragement right?). However, I recognized a great reality in the third chapter. The author has just finished talking about some of the miseries and sufferings he had been afflicted with. But then he begins to encourage his very soul in the good things and promises of God.
He reminds the reader that every morning all these promises are brand new and for us. I know you’re saying to yourself, “that is not my experience”. Well, here’s what happens. Most of the time when we go to sleep, our mind is replaying the events of the day and our final thoughts are on the troubles of the day, and what they may represent tomorrow. We carry the troubles of yesterday with us into the next day. Instead, we should make our last thoughts, as we lay our heads on the pillow, be thoughts about Jesus and His Word. Then when we awake in the morning we should allow our first thoughts to be on Him and not on the possible problems confronting us that day. In so doing we leave yesterday’s problems behind us, in our yesterday, and we start today with the new mercies and blessings, the promises and victories that Jesus has specifically for us today.
When we carry yesterday’s problems with us to the next day, we miss the new good things that Jesus has for us that day. This circumvents His “great and abundant” plans for us. Don’t miss the great and abundant blessing He has for you tomorrow and every day. Make a determination to leave yesterday’s problems behind accept each morning His promises of mercy, love, kindness ad compassion, that He has established for you.
