He Will Awaken Your Ear

“The Lord God has given Me The tongue of the learned, That I should know how to speak A word in season to him who is weary.  He awakens Me morning by morning, He awakens My ear To hear as the learned.  The Lord God has opened My ear; And I was not rebellious, Nor did I turn away.”  Isaiah 50:4-5   NKJV

Just think for a moment what this says. The Lord has given you the tongue of the learned!  Did you expect that?  Do you live that experience in your life?  As disciples of Jesus, we should expect to “know” things that are unknowable except through the Holy Spirit.  You should know things for your own wisdom, but also so that you can speak a word in season to the one struggling and wearied from life.  This is not exclusively the job of those in formal ministry. This is the role of each one of us that name the name of Jesus.  This is what we should expect from life in service to Him.

If you feel like you are not equipped for such a role as this, then you can take comfort and draw assurance from the rest of the words of Isaiah concerning these things.  Expect and be looking for the opportunity to speak a word in season to others, a word that is not just your human observations but a Word from the Lord specifically from them.  You should expect this because it is what the Lord expects from each of us.  We are His vessels and he desires to use us to minister His deliverance, hope, and love to others.

In fact, the Lord is speaking to you right now through the prophet Isaiah and He is telling you He will awaken you each morning with the ability to hear from Him the truth and knowledge you will need throughout that day. The knowledge that comes only from Him, for you personally and for you to share with others.

He awakens you to hear, this is the promise.  He may wake you up at night and have a word for you.  If you have an ear that is open with expectancy, obedience, and desire, He will speak this knowledge of the Holy Spirit to you.  When He awakens you at night don’t just turn over and go back to sleep, listen for Him.  Listen for Him because the Lord has “opened your ear”!!!

If you will listen and expect to hear from Him, you will hear things from Him beyond what you ever expected.  Too often we are the opposite of verse 5.  We have closed our ears to hear. We rebel against His soft speech to us and turn away so that we do not lose any sleep and so we miss the intimate time with Him, time when He could give us knowledge so that we can have the tongue of the learned throughout the day.  When you awaken tonight or in the morning, be determined that you will not turn away, but rather listen and hear Him, the One who desires to share His mind and heart with you.
