Dividends From Proverbs

1”My son, forget not my law or teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments;     2For length of days and years of a life [worth living] and tranquility [inward and outward and continuing through old age till death], these shall they add to you……4So shall you find favor, good understanding, and high esteem in the sight [or judgment] of God and man     5Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding.”  Proverbs 3:1-2, 4-5   Amplified Bible

It is so easy to get sidetracked from His teachings and get lost in the things of the world.  Proverbs is a series of sayings to those who would be wise.  We need to listen to the benefits of following this wisdom of keeping our hearts on Him and not the world.

Here is a great benefit of keeping our hearts on His Word and teaching – long life, which we all seek after. But not only do we gain longevity of years, but those years are also going to be worth living, filled with tranquility.  That is a worthy goal to reach for!  That comes through the teachings of the Word and obedience to His commands.

It does not end there, however. That same verse goes on to say that part of the blessing of having the Word and the teachings of the Lord in our hearts, is the promise of peace in all things.  This is both inward peace as well as outward.  Imagine having nothing to stress over in this life.  That alone will give you a reason to look forward to a long life!

In verse four the list of blessings for keeping His Word in our hearts continues to grow.  We are wise if we listen.  Here we learn that we can also expect favor from Jesus as well from men.  Picture your life with favor coming at you from both the natural realm with men and from the spiritual realm from Jesus and all of this coming to you with regularity.  Think of this: men will fight for the opportunity to lay favors before us, not because of us or who we are (for we are nothing but mere servants obeying Him), but because this is what the Lord promises for those that learn and grow in His Word and in our knowledge of Him.

If we will adhere to this sage advice from the writer of Proverbs, there is only one possible outcome for your life and it is the realization of all these promises from Proverbs 3.
