David’s Currency Of The Word
24 “For You have made Your people Israel Your very own people forever; and You, Lord, have become their God. 25 “Now, O Lord God, the word which You have spoken concerning Your servant and concerning his house, establish it forever and do as You have said.” 2 Samuel 24-25 NKJV
David, the man after God’s own heart, had just received the prophetic Word of God’s promises for him and his house. Then in the verses above we hear the humbleness of David’s words in response to God. In verse 25 David is talking about the Word that God had given and he says, “Do as You have said Lord”.
Understanding what has happened here will help us understand how to receive and lay hold of the promises of Jesus for us in His Word. Have you ever read a promise in the Word and believed it, but had a difficult time realizing it in your life? I think all of us have been there. David heard the words of God, the promises given and thus established forever, and look how David responds to the words. There are three things David did: he heard the word, he received it and he accepted it.
What about you? What do you do when you read of His promises for you in the Word? Do you hear it? In other words are open to it as THE Word of God for you? Do you receive it? Are you able to believe that the Word is still life and power for today and is directly applicable to your life if you will respond in faith and hold onto the Word? And finally, do you accept it? This is the hard step for most of us because that means we accept it as fact even when our situation says something else entirely. It is a question of what you believe, either what you see or what you received from His Word for you. It is what faith is, believing and receiving, accepting as done what your eyes cannot yet see.
David heard the words of the Lord, he received them as truth for him and his household and he accepted them as reality before they were manifested as a natural reality. Because David was able to do that, he was now ready to take the crucial step. He was ready to cash in. In faith, he was cashing in the Word of God for him.
David is saying, “I believe your Word so go ahead and do it!” That is bold faith and bold words by David in response to God’s Word. God’s Word was the currency for David that he cashed in! His Word was that certain to David; he could receive and accept it as truth that he could cash in.
This should be our response to the Word that we have. In fact, we have an even better covenant to stand upon than David had. Read the Word, hear it, receive it, accept it and then cash it in. Read His promises for you and say as David did, “As you spoke it Lord, do as you have said”!
