As He Is, So Are We In This World

16”And we know (understand, recognize, are conscious of, by observation and by experience) and believe (adhere to and put faith in and rely on) the love God cherishes for us. God is love, and he who dwells and continues in love dwells and continues in God, and God dwells and continues in him.  17In this [union and communion with Him] love is brought to completion and attains perfection with us, that we may have confidence for the day of judgment [with assurance and boldness to face Him], because as He is, so are we in this world.”    John 4:16-17    Amplified Bible

My wife and I have served Jesus together for more than three decades.  In that time we have observed and experienced the love of God in our lives and for us.  The same thing is true for you. He is constantly demonstrating His love for you in your life.  The longer you serve Him, the more experience you have walking in Him, the more evident this reality becomes.

Think about what you have come through in your time as a follower of Jesus, whether that is years or only days.  The love of Jesus dwells with you because the Lord Himself dwells within you.  So there is an evident pattern of His deliverance and faithfulness even in the hard times.  We need to look and learn to recognize His faithfulness and observe it in our daily experiences.

Now, look at verse 17.  It further speaks of the union of Jesus with us and His love and communion of love with you.  Notice that this love attains its perfection when it is completed in us by our acceptance and response to that love.  Then the key last phrase from verse 17, “because as He is, so are we in this world”.

That is an amazing statement, as He is, so are we, not in the future when we are with Him in heaven, no we are as He is now!  That means that we are already victorious in every situation and circumstance no matter how it appears.  It means that we have all that we need, in fact, more than enough.  Believe this and learn to see this, to observe this in your daily life.  As we learn it we come to expect it and as we come to expect it we tend to demonstrate it to the rest of the world as we go through our day.

In John Jesus said that we would do even greater things than He did.  “As He is, so are we in this world”.  We have His power, His authority, and His victory in everything.  That is what we should come to expect to observe and experience in our lives in Him.
