Aim For His Treasures

1IF THEN you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, thus sharing His resurrection from the dead], aim at and seek the [rich, eternal treasures] that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.”       Colossians 3:1  Amplified Bible

When you think about it, as believers we have a really lousy spiritual aim.  When we face trials or struggles as believers we normally just throw out a few prayers of desperation and then hope for the best.  Our faith tends to be very scattershot, without direction.  This is not the way we are instructed to approach Him and it does explain why we tend to be disappointed so often in our prayer life.

In the first verse of Colossians 3, we are reminded that we share in Jesus’ resurrection from the dead.  Don’t miss the significance of this.  We share the same power that enabled Jesus to defeat death and sin and the failures of the flesh. In this defeat of the enemy, He broke the enemy’s hold on us, freed us from the natural so that we could lay hold of the supernatural.  Paul is telling us that as followers of Jesus, no matter who you are, you share in that power and this same power moves through you as you stand on His Word in faith.  Do you often think of the power of Jesus, His supernatural power flowing through you?  Most of us don’t, especially when we are in the midst of a battle.  Our focus is on the problem and physical reality of that problem in our life.  When we are focused on the problem we tend to lack faith in the certainty of His promises and this is reflected in our prayers.

Paul tells us, however, that we should have our minds set on things above.  That sounds really nice but what does that really mean?  It means that as one who is in Christ, we need to be focused and aim our thoughts and direct our prayers, not just simply pray and hope for good results.  Paul tells us that since we walk in that power we should aim for and seek the “rich eternal treasures that are above.  Rather than looking around in desperation for an answer, we should have a laser-like focus on the victories already established for us in Jesus.  He is reminding you that the answer, the deliverance, the miraculous end that you desire is already established for you in the supernatural and we need to aim in that specific direction and seek for that which is already ours.  Your deliverance is above, in the spirit realm where Christ is. Look to Him and lay hold of the promises that belong to you because He paid the price for them on your behalf.

This verse also identifies that Christ is seated at the right hand of the Father.  This is a description that we read in the Bible and think it just prose.  We fail to see the importance of what this tells us.  Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father.  That means He is not getting up every time you have a need.  We often pray and beg Jesus to do things for us in our desperation.  This is not aimed prayer.  The fact that He is seated means that His work is done.  He has already provided for your need and the work is finished and just waiting for you to receive delivery of the miracle.    When we “aim and seek” for these blessings, we are not looking at the problem.  Rather we are looking above and knowing in faith that He has already provided for us.  We are speaking His Word and thanking Him for what we do not yet see, but know is done none the less.

Aim for His supernatural provision.  Seek after those things which He has already provided and has waiting for us to take possession of.  Enjoy the rich eternal treasures that are yours right now in the supernatural, just waiting for us to bring them to our natural reality.  Aim high.
